Royal news and how to cope…

Yes, of course, it goes without saying that we are delighted about the news of the Royal baby, but it’s extremely difficult to deal with the media’s baby obsession when you are trying unsuccessfully to get pregnant.  The endless drivel about who visited when, what they said and the analysis of how they might all be feeling is enough to drive a perfectly fertile person crazy but when you’re feeling fragile, it can all become unbearably painful.

You may feel tempted to flee the country at the moment, but even that won’t help much as newsstands across the globe are plastered with images of the tiny baby or the shiny, happy couple.  I think the best way to deal with this is to accept that there is no escape for a while, but to try to remember that even the Royal family-obsessed media will gradually run out of new baby-related things to say and will turn itself to something more mundane like the state of the NHS or the economy.

It’s also a good time to remember quite how many of us there are who experience fertility problems – one in six of the population – which means that someone else in your train carriage is looking at the front page photos with a lump in their throat too…
